COLLEGE JUNIORS DISCOVER JERUSALEM ACCREDITED SEMESTER
The Conservative Yeshiva has teamed up with Hadassah Academic College to create Discover Jerusalem: an Accredited Semester, a multi-faceted learning experience through which, in the classroom and around the city, students gain a new level of understanding about Judaism and Jerusalem.

The program is particularly suited to students who are interested in

Discover Jerusalem through unique courses at the Conservative Yeshiva and Hadassah Academic College –
In the Conservative Yeshiva’s Beit Midrash students will acquire or boost text skills through intensive study – chevruta (study with a learning partner) and shiur (seminar class with teacher). The Hadassah Academic College classes will introduce students to new perspectives for understanding Israel and the Middle East. Classes are taught in English.

AT THE CONSERVATIVE YESHIVA
The Conservative Yeshiva offers 6 levels of Talmud and 4 levels of Hebrew Ulpan in addition to a Hebrew literature class. Courses are also offered in Midrash and Halacha.  Discover Jerusalem students will be part of the Conservative Yeshiva community and welcome to take part in all extra-curricular activities.

AT HADASSAH ACADEMIC COLLEGE
Tourism vs. Pilgrimage: City, Citizens, Sightseers, and the Environment
This course deals with the symbiotic relationships of tourism as part of the economic, environmental and social development of Jerusalem.

Water in Jerusalem: From Antiquity to the Present
This course will look at geological, geographic, meteorological, environmental and political aspects of water management and policy in the Middle East.

Photographing a Place, a People, a Past
This course will facilitate students’ connection, analysis, and examination of the different approaches to photographing Jerusalem and its internal dynamics.

SCHEDULE
The expected course load is Talmud four mornings a week plus one Conservative Yeshiva elective and two weekly afternoon classes at Hadassah Academic College, provide 15 credits for the semester. An additional course at either institution provides three additional credits.

ACCREDITATION
Accreditation is arranged through your own college and the Conservative Yeshiva – Hadassah Academic College. A number of colleges already automatically accredit courses given at the Conservative Yeshiva and Hadassah Academic College. The Conservative Yeshiva and Hadassah Academic College will provide your college with any additional information necessary to help expedite the process, and issues transcripts as needed.

ELIGIBILITY
Students in their junior (or senior) year of college are eligible to apply to the Conservative Yeshiva Discover Jerusalem Semester. Students should also have at least level “Bet” Hebrew skills, according to the Israeli ulpan rating system. You need not have studied Jewish texts formally before.

ADMISSIONS
Interested students should apply to the Conservative Yeshiva, selecting the Discover Jerusalem Semester option at the beginning of the application form. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.

HOUSING
Students at the Conservative Yeshiva and Hadassah Academic College live in apartments in Jerusalem, usually within walking distance. The Conservative Yeshiva and Hadassah Academic College do not have dormitories. Housing page

TUITION
Tuition for the semester is $6000 + $125 Activities Fee.
These cover all classes and activities at or provided by the Conservative Yeshiva and Hadassah Academic College. They do not cover flights, housing, food, health insurance (required), books (few need to be bought).

Tuition and Financial Aid

Tuition is $6,125. Students qualifying for MASA are eligible for grants of $3,000 and up for the semester, additional scholarships are available.
